Justin Menendez

Justin Menendez

Justin Menendez (b. 1981, Tampa, Florida) is a painter whose work asks what remains of the image, its aura and the experience of viewing it, in a visual culture mediated by the screen. Each work begins as an improvised painting, which Menendez photographs and breaks apart digitally until an unforeseen form asserts itself. That new image is materialized on aluminum, a surface that recalls the screen, and then interrupted by hand with heavy acrylic. Menendez holds a BA in Cultural Theory from the University of Florida.

Emily Sinovic

Emily Sinovic (b. 1987, Kansas City, Missouri) is a painter working primarily in acrylic on canvas. Her paintings move between expressive abstraction and the human figure, built from gesture, color and texture. Working from instinct rather than a set composition, Sinovic uses brushes, squeegees, brooms and cardboard to push color and pressure, letting each mark determine the next.

Sinovic is a three-time Emmy Award winner and a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
